The Dutch casino regulator says Holland Casino was told to stop advertising its physical properties online, as the two licenses are different.

The regulator – – found in October last year that Holland Casino’s online offering also contained links to information about the group’s land-based casino locations.

It said that under the Remote Games of Chance Decree, an online license holder may not advertise services and goods other than those for which the license is granted. 

The Ksa said the decision could only be published this month due to pending procedures. It gave no further details. 

Holland Casino has a monopoly in the Netherlands for land-based casino games. It operates 14 casinos across the country. The Ksa said the operator has since taken measures to remedy the situation. 

The Netherlands opened its market to online gambling from October last year. The legal online gambling market was estimated to be worth €596.7 million from January to July 2022 and is expected to grow further as more licenses are granted.

The Ksa has been actively enforcing measures to enhance player protection and has been particularly focusing on advertising. 

Ahead of the World Cup it warned operators against irresponsible advertising, while it has also moved to ban the use of celebrities in gambling ads.

This includes soccer players, influencers and models.
