Light & Wonder drops lawsuit against Zeroo Gravity

Gambling company Light & Wonder has reportedly dropped its lawsuit against fellow developer Zeroo Gravity Games. Light & Wonder had sued Zeroo Gravity Games over copyright infringement.

The lawsuit was dimissed on 25 October, however the reason for not pursuing the action remains unknown. There are speculations that the two parties may have reached a settlement.

The dispute was over Zeroo Gravity Games’ 3 Stuffed Swine mobile slot game being similar to Light & Wonder’s Rich Little Piggies: Meal Ticket game. The gambling company alleged that Zeroo Gravity’s title leveraged similar themes, concepts and even game mechanics in its games, and that it allegedly copied visuals “verbatim.”

L&W had insisted in court that all copies of Zeroo Gravity’s 3 Stuffed Swine should be seized, and the company should pay for damages. If the suit was not dropped, Zeroo Gravity would have had to respond to the original complaint by 28 October.

L&W lost the Dragon Train case

In related news, amid ongoing battle between the company and Aristocrat, the latter settled an intellectual property lawsuit in Australia with a former employee named in legal challenge over L&W’s Dragon Train game.

Aristocrat said the settlement in its dispute with Dinh Toan Tran, a former long-term employee was reached on “favorable terms” where he acknowledged copying sensitive intellectual property. As a part of the settlement reached between the two, Tran “has agreed to pay financial compensation to Aristocrat,” a statement reveals.

Trevor Croker, Aristocrat’s CEO and managing director, spoke about the company’s goal to innovate the sector. Emphasising how Aristocrat’s intellectual property is vital for its continuous success, he said the company is prepared to protect the efforts of its talented team members. Finally, Croker said, “We welcome this positive outcome, which follows the decisive action we took to ensure the preservation of Aristocrat’s valuable IP assets.”

According to the announcement about the company’s settlement with the former employee, ahead of his resignation, he “copied a substantial volume of Aristocrat’s sensitive and valuable intellectual property, including trade secrets, onto external USB storage devices.”
