The MGA has just published its Interim Report 2023. Figures show that the gaming industry in Malta contributed 9.5% to the Gross Value Added (GVA) in H1 2023, totalling €810.7 million, with an overall 12.2% contribution to the economy. The sector’s growth in value added was 1.1% compared to H1 2022, indicating stabilization. As of June 2023, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) licensed 335 companies with a total of 345 gaming licenses. Despite a slight decrease from the previous year, the industry remains resilient, collecting €41.2 million in various fees and taxes during H1 2023, showcasing its continued financial strength.
In H1 2023, local casino visits increased by 26.0% compared to the same period in 2022, maintaining an upward trend post-COVID-19 restrictions. Visitors aged 65 and over constituted 31.5%, with the 35–54 age group at 25.7%. Other age groups represented 19.8%, 13.6%, and 9.4% of total visits for the 25–34, 55–64, and 18–24 brackets, respectively.

Investors rank gaming, tourism, and leisure as top sectors for the next five years.
