The Singapore Police Force has officially taken over the task of blocking illegal gambling websites from January 1, 2025. Earlier, this task was managed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), which announced the transition in a Facebook post on December 31, 2024.
In its , the GRA thanked the public for their support and wrote,“Thank you for your contributions in reducing the harm caused by illegal gambling websites. From 1 January 2025, the Singapore Police Force will take over the blocking of such websites. Your role remains vital in keeping Singapore safe. Please report unlawful gambling activities.”
Since 2015, authorities have blocked over 3,800 illegal gambling websites and intercepted more than 145,000 payment transactions, totaling SGD 37 million (US$27.2 million), according to the GRA.
Illegal online gambling in Singapore is regulated under the Gambling Control Act, which came into effect in August 2022. This act coincided with the establishment of the GRA, which took over and expanded the regulatory duties previously managed by the Casino Regulatory Authority.
